摘要
Integral imaging three-dimensional (3D) displays provide viewers with realistic images with depth. However, existing integral imaging 3D displays suffer from limited viewing angle, low resolution, shallow depth of field (DOF), and severe crosstalk. In this paper, we propose a wide-viewing-angle and crosstalk-free integral imaging 3D display using time-division multiplexing and polarizer arrays. By increasing the pitch of the elemental image arrays by a factor of two, the viewing angle is significantly enhanced. A two-piece aspherical compound lens array is optimized to mitigate aberrations introduced by the enhanced viewing angle. Polarization arrays combined with a polarization converter effectively suppress crosstalk caused by excessive light divergence, thereby preventing viewer fatigue at the edges of the viewing zone. The time-division multiplexing technique ensures that the proposed system has no loss of resolution and DOF within the viewing angle. The experimental results show that the viewing angle is improved by 90%, from 40° to 76°, and crosstalk issues in traditional integral imaging 3D displays are eliminated. The proposed display is well-suited for multi-viewer scenarios.
