Vehicle infrastructure integration system for improving ramp merging safety

摘要

In accordance with the traffic safety and operating characteristics during the merging process,Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) system for improving ramp merging safety was established. Framework and architecture of VII experimental system were designed by analyzing its functions. Then this paper described a preliminary study on a merging control algorithm of vehicles on highways using vehicles to infrastructure communication. Simulation results indicated that a smooth reference speed trajectory for the merging vehicle could be calculated based on the control algorithm, but a rather general adaptive algorithm should be provided to avoid a two point boundary value problem in future research. This research provided an effective theory and technique support for increasing safety and decreasing traffic congestion in ramp merging area.
