The influence of HUD information visual coding on pilot's situational awareness

摘要

In order to investigate the effect of Head-up Display (HUD)'s information visual coding on operator's situational awareness(SA), this study designed an ergonomics experiment based on Endsley's theory of three-level situation awareness. Thirty-Two subjects were recruited to perform HUD interface monitoring task under different visual coding conditions(small aircraft symbol, reverse position of heading and rolling indictors and representation of airspeed and altitude indictors). Meanwhile, Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique (SAGAT), three-dimensional Situational Awareness Rating Technique(3-D SART), task performance and physiological measurements were adopted to evaluate operator's SA. The experimental results revealed that the circular type of small aircraft symbol performed better, the heading indictor located at the top of the HUD interface was more conducive to the operators' SA, the airspeed representation with digital window and the altitude representation with single pointer executed better. The experimental results can be used to provide ergonomics references for design and optimization of HUD interface.
