N2 - A systematic design approach of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) TE10-TEN0-mode converter is introduced and demonstrated. The universal topology of the proposed SIW mode converter consists of a 1-to-N power divider, an N-way phase shifter, and a mode combiner in sequence. Hence, the input TE10mode wave can be modulated in terms of both amplitude and phase to mimic the field distribution of the desired TEN0mode. The balance of either the amplitude or the phase further affects the mode purity. Design examples of TE10-TE20 TE10-TE30, TE10-TE40, and TE10-TE50 mode converters are simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed design approach.
