摘要
A SOFIM turbocharged diesel engine was modified into a pressure wave supercharged diesel engine. The intake manifolds and exhaust pipes should be redesigned to match the pressure wave supercharger (PWS). The intake manifolds with better intake uniformity and larger surge volume and the divergent central port type exhaust pipes were adopted. The inverter motor was used to optimize the transmission ratio between PWS rotor and engine crankshaft to accomplish higher charge ratio over whole engine operating range. The experimental results show that pressure wave supercharging is superior to turbocharging at low engine speeds and inferior to turbocharging at medium and high engine speeds in terms of power and emissions. The pressure wave supercharged diesel engine performance under high speed operating conditions can be improved by using intake manifolds and exhaust pipes with larger volumes and further optimizing the transmission ratio.
