abstract = "The present closure contributions in dark energy and dark matter are nearly equal suggesting that they could be different aspects of the same physical phenomenon. We review constraints three postulates as to how such a unification might have been achieved. These include the possibility that: 1) the dark matter decays producing a bulk viscosity in the cosmic fluid; 2) the modification of the expansion rate by the inflow of dark matter from a bulk dimension in brane-world cosmology; and 3) relativistic corrections to the Friedmann equation from the presence of local inhomogeneities. Constraints on and observational tests of each of these cosmologies are described.",
