N2 - Because of high operation frequency, high-speed machines suffer from more electromagnetic losses than lowspeed machines, such as core loss, AC copper loss, and rotor eddy current loss. During the test of prototype machine, these losses are not easy to be measured separately, which causes difficulty in validation of theorical analyses. This paper proposes a new method to accurately measure the core loss of high-speed machine. By selecting a common high-speed machine as the research object, the prototype machine for measurement is re-designed. The packing factor is significantly reduced, and the conductors are far away from the slot opening. Meanwhile, the magnets are made of bonded permanent magnet (PM) material. Consequently, the AC copper loss and rotor eddy current loss of the prototype machine for measurement are almost eliminated, while its core loss is similar to that of common machine.
