N2 - To satisfy the need of analyzing and dealing with quality problem in the perspective of quality characteristic variation propagation, the characteristic relationship modeling technology was studied. The essence of quality characteristic variation was analyzed, and quality characteristics and their relationships oriented to the variation control were discussed. Five typical quality characteristic relationship configurations were concluded, which included derivation, deployment, constraints, composite deployment and composite constraints. The linkage was proposed as the basic unit of characteristic relationship, and several linkage attributes of variation propagation analysis were defined including linkage variation sensitivity, variation impact and so on. Structured quality characteristic relationship models of linkage network and linkage matrix were constructed and the main extended views of linkage model were given. A case was provided to validate the efficiency of linkage model in quality characteristic relationships modeling and variation analysis.
