No 'all-purpose' material, but 'best' material - On the role and status of heat treatment technology and process

It is explained from the point of intention and definition of materials science and engineering that synthesize/manufacture is one of the four (or five) basic elements which composing materials science and engineering. The viewpoint is put forward that heat treatment technology and process is one of the important and necessary means and technical measure to improve the intrinsic quality of material, rationalize the structure and property to meet the required capability. Finally, it is believed that failure of material is one of the important indication and trend to identify the quality of heat treatment technology and process.
