Modelling the crowding effects of transit system on commuters' arrival behaviors

摘要

This paper investigates the arrival behaviors of commuters in transit system with crowding effects during peak periods. In congested transit system, commuters who take a mass transit from a living place to a work place have to encounter a trade-off between the schedule delay cost and the discomfort cost due to congested vehicles and crowded platforms. The commuters without seats in vehicle would experience the in-vehicle congestion disutility, while the others who have seats in vehicle would have to endure the at-platform crowding cost for the priority of sitting. An equivalent mathematical programming model is formulated to describe the equilibrium, and sensitivity analyses are carried out to illustrate the impacts of various parameters on the commuter arrival patterns with the use of numerical examples.
