Microfluidization and ultrasonication process for high throughput and large-scale production of SWCNT dispersions

摘要

High throughput and large-scale production of high quality SWCNT dispersions are necessary for developing various SWCNT based applications. One critical factor to judge the quality of SWCNT dispersions is the degree of exfoliation of SWCNT bundles, or the percentage of individual tubes in a given dispersion. In this paper, we demonstrated a new SWCNT dispersion processing technique - microfluidization process assisted with the conventional ultrasonication for high throughput and large-scale production of SWCNT dispersions with high percentage of individual tubes. The synergistic effects of the microfluidization and the ultrasonication were systematically studied with the newly developed SWCNT dispersion characterization techniques, namely, the preparative ultracentrifuge method and the simultaneously Raman scattering and photoluminescence spectroscopy.
