摘要

The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is widely used for safe airway management, but weight-based sizing often overlooks individual anatomical variations, impacting fit and seal due to differences in pharyngeal structures. This study investigates the biomechanical sealing mechanisms of the LMA in patients within the same weight range (50–70 kg) using finite element analysis. After LMA insertion, neck imaging data were collected and analyzed using finite element analysis. Results showed that even among patients within the same weight range, variations in LMA morphology and sealing characteristics emerge, among which an uneven localized pressure distribution could potentially affect the sealing effectiveness of the LMA. The study suggests that LMA size selection should consider individual pharyngeal anatomy for better seal quality and reduced complications.
