摘要
Icing is a primary meteorological condition that has non-negligible influence on aircraft flight performance and safety. Although the situation has improved a lot due to advances in the modern aircraft design, flight incidents and accidents due to ice accretion on aircraft still occur from time to time all over the world. This chapter discusses the issue of ice accretion on aircraft, including icing parameters, ice types, aerodynamic and flight mechanical effects, as well as sensing and protection. Investigating icing effects on aircraft and developing effective measures to protect aircraft from ice accretion still are two significant tasks for aircraft icing researchers.
