Commutation-Overlap PWM Strategy for Torque Ripple Suppression in Reaction Wheel BLDC Motors

摘要

To mitigate the adverse effects of commutation torque ripple in reaction wheel systems, this paper establishes an analytical model of brushless direct current motor (BLDC) motor currents, back Electromotive Force (back-EMF), and torque to reveal its formation mechanism. A commutation-overlap-based PWM control strategy is then proposed. Unlike conventional dual closed-loop control, the method adaptively sets the overlap duration from current dynamics and employs high-frequency PWM to balance current slopes, ensuring smooth phase transitions. Simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed strategy effectively suppresses commutation torque ripple, thereby enhancing torque smoothness, stability, and control precision.
