abstract = "A novel formulation for calculating diffraction patterns on inside cylindrical surface is presented. Computation formula for diffraction patterns on the outside observation surface has been reported in literatures. But the formulation for an inside observation surface appears to be new. Applying the Huygens-Fresnel principle, in this work, we derive the diffraction distributions on the inside observation surface which are due to point light sources on the outside concentric object surface. Simulation results including the Young's fringe and the diffraction patterns on cylindrical observation with cylindrical image illustrate the feasibility of the proposed formulation. This new formula will be extremely useful in creating cylindrical computer-generated holograms.",
