A low complexity image coding algorithm based on wavelet prediction and zero-block scanning

摘要

Bit-plane prediction coding is an efficient method to compress wavelet coefficient. However, the complexity is usually high because of context prediction and arithmetic coding. In this paper, a new efficient compression algorithm called ZBP is proposed. In ZBP, zero-block coding is proposed and combined with prediction coding, which not only removes the redundancy more sufficiently but also decreases the computation complexity sharply. Moreover, the representation and storage of wavelet coefficient are optimized to reduce memory access complexity. In addition, prediction table is introduced to implement context prediction, which reduces the computation complexity further. Experimental results show the validity of the new algorithm ZBP. Compared with JPEG2000, the image quality is averagely 0.2 dB higher, and the running speed is 3.5 times faster.
