Abstract
Rapidly solidified in-situ composite coatings reinforced by primary and eutectic Ti 5Si 3 intermetallic phases were prepared on Ti-6Al-4V substrates precoated with silicon powder by means of laser surface alloying. The microstructure of the laser surface alloyed Ti 5Si 3/β-Ti in-situ composite coatings and the wear resistance of the coatings under the wear conditions of dry sliding and two-body abrasive were studied. The results show that both the hardness and wear resistance of alloy Ti-6Al-4V were significant-ly improved after laser surface alloying.
