N2 - In the past decade, there has been a significant surge in attention toward reconstructing structural dynamic responses. This surge is driven by the need for integrated structural diagnostics and prognostics for engineering structures. Accurately estimating the health state of critical locations within a structure is imperative for determining maintenance schedules. Compared with general structural vibration problem, ultrasonic wave poses obvious wave effect and properties. Therefore, obtaining an accurate response reconstruction of ultrasonic wave field is a practical challenge. In this paper, a new method for ultrasonic wave field reconstruction of critical locations using measurements from sensors at a convenient location is proposed. The method is based on the standing wave truncation criterion and transmissibility matrix derived from finite element modeling. Responses measured from sensors at convenient locations are preprocessed using a standing wave truncation criterion, which ensures the effectiveness of the measured responses. Transmissibility matrix derived from finite element modeling is used to transform the responses from the measured locations to critical locations where direct sensor measurements are not available. A numerical plate example is employed to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method and demonstrate the overall reconstruction procedure. Effects of influencing parameters, such as sensor numbers, sensor locations, and the noise level in measurements are all investigated in detail.
