Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate wall pressure fluctuations and flow-induced noise in a turbulent flow over the wall-mounted hemi-ellipsoid by means of numerical simulation. Wallmodelled large eddy simulation was employed to shed a light on the turbulent structures of the flow-field and to explain the connection between the turbulent Vortex development of turbulent boundary layer around the bumps and the characteristics of surface pressure spectrum. According to the simulation results, Wall-mounted ellipsoid dramatically increase the pressure fluctuations in the leading and trailing regions which are in the non-equilibrium state. Besides, the wall pressure spectrum is compared with the available empirical models to evaluate the generality to predict complex 3D flows.
