Abstract

A numerical method is used to compute the unsteady transverse jets flow and study the air-fuel mixing characteristics in the unsteady flowfield. The unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a high-order AUSM+ method with dual-time-step implicit time scheme. It is found that the transverse jets flowfield is very unsteady and the unsteadiness is caused by the primary vortices emanating from the jet nozzle. Detained analysis of the instantaneous flow and mass fractions of species are performed, showing that the location of primary vortices significantly affects the mixing efficiency, and the mass fractions of species and mixing efficiency show unsteady and oscillatory with time.
