Abstract

With the developing of higher performance turbomachinery, higher load, higher efficiency, wider operating range, less vibration, lower noise, more compact and higher reliability have been the objective of advanced design of turbomachinery, accordingly, the unsteady characteristic inherently in the turbomachinery becomes more severe and can not be neglected. Moreover, during the past two decades, great progress has been made in Computation Fluid Dynamic simulation of three dimensional, viscous and steady flows. The knowledge about the unsteady flow mechanism has been much more enriched. Therefore, it is possible to take the unsteady influence into account in the design of tur-bomachinery. Under the guidance of subject's developing background by Edge-Matching technology, this article discusses the dominant effect of Edge-Matching from the four aspects of unsteady design as aerodynamic, aero-elastic vibration, management of hot environment for turbine and aero-acoustic.
