Abstract

The performance of the k-ω SST turbulence model in shock wave/turbulence boundary layer interaction (SWTBLI) flows is tested in the present paper and the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) turbulence models based on the eddy-viscosity assumption generate very high fake amplification on turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) across shock wave. This phenomenon will yield significant numerical error especially on aeroheating prediction in strong SWTBLI condition. To enhance the prediction accuracy of heat flux, a shock wave detector is developed to track the shock wave firstly. Subsequently, a TKE damping function based on the shock wave detector is proposed and incorporated into the k-ω SST turbulence model. Finally, numerical simulation researches on 2-D compression ramp and cone cylinder flare are carried out using the original k-ω SST turbulence model and modified turbulence model with the TKE damping function respectively. The results of numerical simulation indicate that the fake TKE amplification can be suppressed effectively by the damping function proposed in present paper and the results of pressure and heat flux using the modified turbulence model accord well with experimental data. The modified turbulence model coupled with TKE damping function can enhance the accuracy of SWTBLI numerical simulation effectively.
