Abstract

The issue of short takeoff and landing (STOL) for fixed-wing aircraft has always been an important research area. There are some problems with the current research. To improve the STOL performance of the Top Cub, this paper analyzes the entire landing process of this aircraft on the Burj Al Arab Resort helipad. The landing process is divided into three phases: decelerated descent, steady descent, and ground taxiing. Furthermore, a method for calculating the ground taxiing distance is proposed. Finally, the results of the proposed mathematical model are similar to actual results from the Red Bull, and the landing performance of the aircraft under different conditions is analyzed. The results show that by optimizing the landing process, the aircraft's short-distance landing performance can be significantly improved.
