Abstract

Flexible electronics, as a newly-developed technique, have exhibited a promising prospect in many applications, especially in bio-related fields for health monitoring and medical stimulation due to their excellent mechanical performance in adaptation for large curvature surface, such as fingertip and heart. It is crucial to understand that thermal management of exothermic flexible electronics integrated with biological tissue is indispensable since excessive heat may induce adverse thermal responses in tissue. An axisymmetric cambered analytical model in sphere coordinate system is established to investigate thermal properties of flexible electronics affixed on a large curvature myocardial surface. In the analytical model, Fourier heat transfer in electronics and Pennes bio-heat transfer in biological tissue are both taken into consideration. The analytical model is verified by finite element analysis (FEA) and the influences of curvature, myocardium thickness, substrate properties and blood convection coefficient on thermal properties are also researched systematically. The cambered analytical model may help the design and fabrication of flexible electronic devices on large curvature surface in the future.
