Abstract

Based on Pockels effect in electro-optic crystal and Faraday effect in magneto-optic glass, a new optical electric power sensing system was presented. The electric power sensing signal can be directly obtained by connecting a voltage-dependent electro-optic crystal with a current dependent magneto-optic glass. The principle of the sensing system was studied. The experiment on measuring AC electric power was carried out. Its nonlinearity errors are less than 1.3% and 1.4% for the resistive and inductive load respectively.
