Abstract

Cement based piezoelectric composites have not only low frequency, but also good compatibility with the concrete, which is perfect for measuring the properties of the civil engineering structures. However, up till now there have been only a few literatures dealing with the theoretical analysis of cement based piezoelectric composite, especially for the 2-2, 0-3 and 1-3 cement based types. In the second part of this study, an analytical model was established for the dynamic properties of 2-2 cement based piezoelectric actuator based on the existing experimental investigations. The actuator consists of N piezoelectric layers and N+1 cement layers alternately. Then, by using the displacement method, the exact solutions of the components of the displacement and stress were obtained for each piezoelectric layer and cement layer, respectively, in the third part. The forth part of the study is focused on comparisons and discussions with the existing experiments. It was found that the magnitude of the strain amplitude of the cement layer and its changing trend with the external frequency were consistent with the experimental results, which also holds true for the load generated by the actuator. Besides, other conclusions of this actuator were given. The influence of the frequency on the displacement and potential of the piezoelectric layer were also discussed. The analytical model established in this paper could benefit the design of the related smart devices.
