Abstract

Finite element method was used to simulate thermal barrier coatings and calculate the stresses caused by the mismatching of the thermal expansion coefficient between the ceramic and metal materials, and also by the temperature gradient. According to this, the selection of the thermal expansion coefficient of the bond coating was concluded. We also modeled thermal barrier coatings with gradated a bond coating, and calculated the stress based on it. The stress in the graded thermal barrier coatings is obviously less than that in double layer thermal barrier coating system.
