The improvement of mesh generation method in KIVA code and the application of Reynolds stress turbulent models

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to incorporate, investigate, validate, and modify an improvement mesh generation method and DSM turbulent models for in-cylinder flow field simulations using the KIVA-3 computer code. An improved method for mesh generation in KIVA code was carried out in this paper. The method can be used to generate any complex zone with elliptic partial differential equations. The convergence is quick and simple, needn't any interior nodes. The strong swirl turbulent flow in ICE is simulated using the Differential Reynolds stress (DSM) equation models based on the grid generated via this new method. It correctly predicts the non-isotropic characteristic of the in-cylinder turbulent flows in ICE.
