The corrosion failure study on the coating of chassis plates

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

Chassis plates are mainly used in marine atmospheric environment and play an important role in protecting the internal components from disruption and extending the life of equipment. This paper took coating material (Model: TB06-9+TS70-1) as the test object and studied the main failure mechanism. It was found that Hinderliter model could be the main performance degradation indicators according to the analysis and low-frequency impedance can reflect the failure process perfectly. Then neutral salt spray test was designed to analyze the effect of salt fog on the coating. During the research, infrared spectra analysis was taken as a qualitative analysis method on studying the failure process of the coating. It was concluded that the main failure reason was that solution containing inorganic salt ions permeated into the interior of the coating material and caused the corrosion of the substrate material. Finally, a quantitative analysis was performed on the service life of the coating in internal and external field salt spray test. The results indicated that the service life was 2449.872 hours when the chassis plates were applied under the conditions of the laboratory simulation test and it was 28.334 months when the chassis plates were used in Wanning Station in Hainan Province.
