Synthesis of conductive polypyrrole/polylactic acid membranes and its properties

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Conductive polypyrrole/polylactic(PPy/PLA) membranes were prepared with the emulsion polymerization method. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation revealed a continuously dispersed distribution of polypyrrole particles within the polylactic acid substance. Absorptive wavelength of PLA and PPy presented in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic(FT-IR) spectra. The study on electric conductivity of the membrane using a home-made multiwell direct current electrical stimulate system shows that the prepared conductive membranes have a fairly stable electrical conductivity with slow decline. The conductivity of the membranes sustains in the range of 28 μA~35 μA between the observation time of 560 h to 1146 h. Scanning electron microscopy osteosblast culture study shows very good attachments and spreading of osteosblasts on the membrane, indicating that the conductive PPy/PLA membranes have good cytocompatibility.
