Abstract

Laser cladding is an important surface modification technique, which can be used to improve the surface performance of the titanium alloys. Laser cladding of the alloy powders on titanium alloy can form the ceramic reinforced composite coating. During the cladding process, Y2O3 suppressed the crystallisation and growth of the crystals in laser clad coating in a certain extent. In addition, the production of the amorphous alloy was also beneficial in improving the wear properties of the coatings. Owing to the actions of this fine grain strengthening and the phase constituent, the wear resistance and microhardness of the titanium alloy surface were greatly improved.
