Study on transmission characteristics of traction infinitely variable transmission used in electric vehicles

Abstract

The traction infinitely variable transmission (TIVT) used in the powertrain of electric vehicles (EVS) was designed. Based on the analyses of basic configuration and working principle, the properties of its kinematics and dynamics of the key components were systematically analyzed, and the mathematic models of transmission ratio, sliding percentage, transferring torsion and driving efficiency were established. We further used the ADMAS simulation software to carry out the analytical study and numerical calculation. The calculation results showed that the output speed varied with the sway angle of the steer ring if the input one was constant, that the efficiency of TTVT was relatively high when the motion of the driving parts was pure rolling or had small sliding percentage, and that rational design can make the transmission efficiency up to 99%. Based on some type of EVS, the driving range of EVS matched with TTVT was about 8.8 km more than original EVS at the same condition.
