Abstract

The key components that seriously affect the life of aero-engines are called life-limited parts. Failure of life-limited parts will have serious consequences. The residual stress induced by turning can change the stress distribution of life-limited parts, and then affect the failure probability of life-limited parts. Therefore, it is necessary to control the turning parameters to reduce the failure probability. In this paper, a turning residual stress simulation method is proposed. A probabilistic failure risk analysis method considering the turning residual stress is adopted to characterize the influence of residual stress on the failure probability. The influence of turning parameters on the failure probability and residual stress is investigated. The results show that the turning residual stress simulation method in this paper is reasonable, and the relative error between the experimental results and the simulation results is 11.7%. The cutting speed and feed rate should be kept at a moderate level, which not only can obtain large surface compressive residual stresses and low failure probability but also can control the time cost at an acceptable level.
