Abstract

Ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting technology as a new novelty machining technology has a very wide application prospects in the precision & ultra-precision machining. A simple mode for elliptical vibration cutting forces was setup, the kinematical properties of elliptical vibration cutting were analyzed and the formulas related to the cutting duty cycle, the remain height of vibration in cutting direction, the frequency and amplitude of ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting were deduced. And then from these formulas the work characteristics related to the surface roughness, forming accuracy and the efficiency of machining were given out. The cutting force and surface roughness experiments for ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting were also conducted to verify these results.
