Abstract

Traditional fire-resisting method in codes and regulations in China can not be applied to large spatial structures as the structural systems are mostly sophisticated or sometimes there are special aesthetic demands on the structures. It's necessary to conduct comprehensive investigations on fire-resisting performance-based design method with higher scientific and safety level. The development of this method in China and overseas is summarized, and successful practices adopting this method in China were also employed to make comparative analysis. Calculation approaches for temperature distribution and global mechanical performance are then discussed deeply. Suggestions are made to give references for civil engineers.
