Abstract

It is very important to determine key influencing parameters for improving indoor daylighting environment in residential buildings. This investigation simulated numerically indoor daylighting environment with Ecotect and Desktop Radiance. Based on the results, this paper analyzed the impact of the depth of the room, window to wall ratio, and visible transmittance on indoor daylighting environment. The study further examined the indoor daylighting effects at different units on a standard floor of single residential building in Chongqing. The results showed that illuminance in a room from an opening decreased sharply at the beginning and then stabilized. To optimize the window size and to increase visible transmittance can significantly improve the indoor daylighting environment. The orientation of a room is also very important on indoor daylighting.
