Abstract

The hot-water aging experiments at 25°C, 50°C and 96°C on Kevlar29, Kevlar49 and PBO fiber are conducted. The relationships between water absorption, tensile strength and hot-water aging condition are investigated. The change of chemical-structure possibly occurred during fibers absorbing water is analyzed by FTIR spectra. The change of microscopic surface appearance made by hot-water is observed by SEM and the mechanism of water absorption on three kinds of fibers is discussed.
