Abstract

The superelasticity of a shape memory alloy (SMA) is exploited in a new form: a pseudo-rubber metal, which is a damping material used in vibration control. After taking some technical measures, SMA pseudo-rubber metal was made successfully. A damper composed of two pseudo-rubber metal damping elements is presented and fully tested. Experimental results showed that, with the form of pseudo-rubber metal, the SMA damper has a greater recoverable deformation, larger bearing capacity and higher damping capacity than before, which makes the SMA damper most applicable in practical vibration control, especially in the random case.
