Abstract
The system reaction time of phased array radar was studied. The formulas to compute the reaction time for TWS and TAS tracking modes were proposed. The relationship between the reaction time and the searching, tracking and acquisition modes and their parameters were established. The optimization for the acquisition parameters was studied. The reaction times for the two tracking modes were compared by examples. It has been shown that the reaction time of TWS depends primarily on the frame period of searching and velocity of target, and has nothing to do with the number of targets. But the reaction time of TAS mainly depends on the number and velocity of targets and has little bearing on the frame period of searching.
