Abstract
At RIKEN a versatile heavy ion accelerator system composed of a cascade of cyclotrons is under construction. As a second phase of the project. MUSES, an accumulator ring for an RI beam, and an electron-RI collider were planned and R&D works have been performed. Due mainly to budgetary problems, MUSES is now unlikely to be realized with its initial designed concept and with the expected schedule. In the present paper, the essence of design works of accelerator and electron-RI collision experiments are discussed.
