Abstract

In order to overcome the radar cross section (RCS) sensitivity to elevation of squat circular cylinders, a set of squat ellipsoidal cylinder (SEC) calibrators are presented in this paper. In comparison to current widely used squat cylinders, the attractive advantages of the SEC calibrator are that its RCS is independent of frequency and insensitive to the elevation while also can be easily installed on the head of the metal pylon. Besides, the scattering mechanisms of SEC are studied using ultrawideband RCS data which are numerically calculated by the method of moments (MoM). In addition, the RCS deviation versus elevation angle demonstrates that the SEC is much less sensitive than conventional squat cylinder, especially at high frequencies.
