Abstract
In mechanical sciences, nonlinear evolution equations (NLEEs) and their solutions are of broad interest. Hereby we briefly report that computerized symbolic computation with the generalized tanh method is powerful in constructing new soliton-like solutions for two sets of coupled NLEEs - the (2 + 1)-dimensional nonintegrable and integrable dispersive long wave equations. The physical interest of such solutions is that they correspond to the waves in fluids, the crests of which acquire shapes in the surface plane.
