Abstract

Exploiting superelasticity of shape memory alloys (SMA) in passive vibration control, SMA wires were introduced to make pseudo-rubber metal (referred to as metal rubber damper in other literatures) after taking some technical measures. A damper composed of two pseudo-rubber metal damping elements was presented. Tests results showed that the SMA superelastic damper has better performance in random vibration control than other pseudo-rubber metal dampers owning to superelasticity and higher damping capacity of SMA. It can be concluded that the SMA pseudo-rubber metal is a potential material for random vibration control.
