Semi-Markov model for capacity of highway with merging two lane into one lane

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The degradation of road capacity is proved due to the traffic weave when the two lanes is merged into one lane in the metropolis highway. The operational capacity is hence less than the designed capacity of the headway. The Semi-Markov model is proposed on the basis of sum equation of probability. The inputs are the arrive rate and make-way rate which reflect the link flow and traffic behavior respectively. The condition of limit and unlimit of vehicle queue is illustrated through the generating function.
