Abstract

A 5-inch cathode-ray-tube (CRT) faceplate using magnesium-aluminum-oxide (MgAl2O4, abbreviated as MAO) is developed. MAO exhibits a lower thermal expansion coefficient than conventional glass faceplate. To match with MAO, a low temperature frit glass and funnel glass with similar thermal expansion are developed. The stress free process makes the sealing strong and leakage proof. A 50-inch projection CRT high definition television (HDTV) with 1800lm was demonstrated.
