Abstract

Relatively large velocity error or pitch error declined the reliability of the TERCOM matching algorithm. A great initial position error caused the Kalman filters diverge in the SITAN algorithm. In order to solve above problems, a new terrain aided navigation algorithm fitting for aviation was presented. The new algorithm used the TERCOM algorithm as the searching method and the SITAN algorithm which was based on EKF as the tracking method. Experiments with a real terrain compared the proposed algorithm with the traditional SITAN algorithm based on the single-state parallel Kalman filter arrays in the case of different altimeter noises. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm improves the efficiency of the search and enhances the accuracy and practicality of the terrain matching.
