Abstract

Effective morphing strategies and control schemes are vital for morphing tail aircraft, yet the hinge moment at the tail root often constrains morphing flight safety. Furthermore, the effects of various wind conditions on the deformation of vertical tails during flight are not yet well understood. To prevent the failure of the transition between tailless and vertical tail configurations caused by excessive hinge moment, this paper first investigates the hinge moment characteristics of the variable tail structure during high-speed flight. Subsequently, the proposed meta-methodology modeling technique, known as meta-model-based morphing tail hinge moment reduction (MMTHR), is developed. This approach creates a generalized hinge moment basis function model under various wind conditions and incorporates online adaptive identification for the real-time prediction and alleviation of hinge moments during flight.
