Abstract

Adverse weather is the leading cause of flight delay and poses a large thread to the aviation safety. It is necessary to find a safe and efficient route while avoid adverse weather area for in-flight aircraft. In this paper, an automatic route planning method is developed for helping airline dispatchers and air traffic controllers. The method uses weather radar data as input and extract flight avoidance area from it. In order to get a feasible and short path, a double scale A search method is mentioned, one search in airway graph at large scale and the another search in raster network at small scale. The complete process can be finished usually less than 1 second and meet realtime requirements.
