Abstract

International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) and ray tracing principle were introduced firstly. The group ranges in the mid-latitude region of China were simulated with ray tracing algorithm in the IRI model. The distribution characteristics of the group range were analyzed with hour, ground distance and carrier frequency. The change laws of the group range were obtained. It indicates that the change of the group range reflected by E layer is small with hour and carrier frequency. The change of one is uniform with the change of receiver position. The change of the group range reflected by F2 layer affected by hour and carrier frequency strongly. The change law of one is complicated with the change of receiver position.
