Abstract

In order to meet the requirements of flame stabilization and high combustion efficiency for afterburner and ramjet combustor, advanced flameholder need to be developed. A new type of Aspirated Edge Blowing Mixture Curtain flameholder (AEBMC flameholder) scheme was proposed on the basis of the active-mixture-supply EBMC flameholders in this paper. The structural characteristics of the new type of flameholder were introduced. Experimental study on combustion performance of the novel flameholder was conducted under simulated conditions in the rectangular combustion test rig. Combustion efficiency, stable operating range, lean blowout limits and ignition performance of the novel flameholder were researched, and compared to the regular V-gutter flameholder. The experimental results indicated that the novel flameholder had superior performance and new working features. It seems that the novel AEBMC flameholder is hopeful to be used in the afterburner and ramjet combustor.
